If you’re like me and have sensitive skin, finding a good electric razor can be a headache. Most electric shavers, even the best ones, leave my skin dry, irritated, and red. I end up going a few days without shaving, only to repeat the cycle.
If you’ve given up on having a quick, convenient shave and resigned yourself to a lifetime of using a manual razor, think again. The current generation of electric shavers has plenty of skin-safe options. Recently, I got the opportunity to try one of these for a few weeks.
Here’s what I think about the Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s.
Braun Series 3 3040s Proskin: Electric Razor for beginners
Features
• Ergonomic rubber grip.
• 2 sets of foils.
• Use in the shower with shaving foam or gel.
• Middle trimmer for cutting ingrown hairs.
• Integrated edging trimmer.
• Runs wet or dry.
• 100% waterproof.
• Shave gently on sensitive skin.
The Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s is a barebones shaver that’s all about getting the job done. It has two wide foils that float independently of each other. Between them is a heavier-duty trimmer that can handle several days of growth. This also floats on its own.
Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s
It has a flat, wide shape that’s more similar to classic shavers than it is to modern, small-handled design. The rubberized grip is easy to hold on to in the shower and is a nice addition to a shaver that’s 100 percent waterproof, to begin with. I like to shave in the shower, and the Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s makes this more convenient than ever.
This shaver runs wet or dry, so you can also use it at work, in an airport bathroom, or wherever else you need to quickly freshen up. Unfortunately, it’s pretty loud, like an old fashioned set of hair trimmers.
I don’t really mind this, but some people do so I felt it was important to mention.

Good Performance
For a budget electric shaver, the Braun Series 3 3040s ProSkin cuts extremely close. It’s not quite as good as a fresh manual razor, but it’s more than close enough to give me that fresh, clean-shaven look I like to take to work with me in the morning.
It’s a beast, too – the middle trimmer was able to handle a 7-day beard with no problem, and I think I could get away with as much as two weeks of growth. Take that, no shave November!
The head design is a mixed bag. The head itself is stationary, but the foils and trimmer float. This makes it easy to use on my upper lip and sideburns since it won’t accidentally rotate out of the way.
On the other hand, this also makes it tough to navigate around my chin, where the angle is all wrong for me to hold the razor properly.
Performance Pros and Cons
• Pro: Close, smooth shave. | • Con: The head can be awkward around your chin hair. |
• Pro: Very gentle. |
User-Friendliness
The Braun Series 3 3040s is very user-friendly. Just pick it up, turn it on, and start shaving. There’s nothing to it but that.
Charging is as simple as plugging into the charger cable, and the LEDs on the front of the shaver will let you know when the battery is getting low. Because there’s no cleaning station, you’ll need to clean the foils manually after each use. Just push the tabs on the side of the head to release the foil cartridge, and rinse it with warm water to remove hair and shaving cream.
After that, put a dab of soap on the blades, and run the razor under warm water for a few seconds. Leave the foil cartridge off for at least an hour afterward so everything can air dry.
Accessories
There aren’t many accessories with the Braun Series 3 3040s ProSkin. It comes with a plastic foil cover, a charging cord, and a cleaning brush for getting long hairs out of the blades. If you’re looking for a foil electric shaver with a ton of extra features, this isn’t it. On the other hand, you’re getting a tough, durable shaver that does a great job.

The Price of Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s
The Braun Series 3 3040s comes at a budget price. On the one hand, you don’t get many accessories for what you pay. On the other hand, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a shaver this good for this price.
All in all, I think it’s well worth buying, whether you’re getting one for yourself or as a gift.
Braun Series 3 Replacement Head (32B/32S)
Should often electric razor blades be replaced? In general, it is a good idea to replace the head about once every 10 to 12 months.
Pricing Pros and Cons
• Pro: Inexpensive |
My Final Thoughts
In the Braun Series 3, Braun has put together a no-frills, budget shaver that’s all about practical features. The lack of a travel case or cleaning station is disappointing, but the blades and edging trimmer are top quality. Rather than cut corners and release a product with a million cheap bells and whistles, Braun put all their money into the parts that matter.
This foil electric shaver leaves my skin smooth, with no redness or burning. The rigid head is a little awkward around my chin, but it’s also easy to use on my upper lip. All in all, the Braun Series 3 is a good value.
Final Verdict
Wow-what a great budget electric shaver! I’m not saying Braun Series 3 is the best electric shaver for beginners. For one thing, it’s really loud. On the other hand, it’s an absolute steal compared to other gentle shavers on the market. It also has an integrated edging trimmer and floating foils, and can even handle a 7-day or longer beard.
To put it bluntly, you’re not going to find another shaver this gentle at anywhere close to this price. If you have sensitive skin and prefer an electric razor, give the Braun Series 3 ProSkin 3040s a shot.
