Remington F5-5800 is one of the top quality Remington shavers you can find today. I’ve spent a lot of time reviewing high-end electric shavers. While these are, no doubt, better than their less expensive brothers.
They’ve got bills to pay. They’ve got kids. They’ve got a lot of hobbies.
I get that. Not everyone is as crazy about shaving as I am. For most people, it’s just another everyday task. You guys want something that works and don’t break the bank.
You have spoken, and I have listened. I gave the Remington F5-5800 a try for a couple of weeks. Here’s what I found. Shave close with the Remington Shaver with Interceptor Shaving Technology.
The Remington F5 5800 electric shaver has just enough features to make it smart, budget-friendly.

Why should you choose Remington F5-5800 foil shaver?
The Remington F5-5800 is a budget, foil style electric shaver with an integrated edging trimmer. The smooth plastic grip is a little slippery with wet hands, but it has big, fat ridges to prevent any serious slippage.
The foils float independently of each other, and there is an intercept trimmer between them for trimming longer hairs. This makes the Remington F5 5800 surprisingly effective at removing several days of growth, but it also makes it loud.
If your girlfriend is a light sleeper, this might be a problem. It runs wet or dry, but it isn’t totally waterproof, so taking it in the shower is a non-starter. That being said, it’s manufactured by Remington, a prestigious manufacturer.
They back the Remington F5-5800 Foil Shaver with a two-year warranty, which is impressive considering the price point.
Shaving Performance
This shaver cuts surprisingly close. I’d expected it to leave me with a beard trimmer for 5 o’clock shadow, but it left my skin looking clean and smooth. A manual razor is still better, but for the best electric shaver, the Remington F5-5800 does a nice job.
The intercept trimmer is also very effective. I went without shaving for a week, and it cut through the scruff with minimal trouble. I wouldn’t want to go many more days, but this shaver is strong enough to be used by a weekly shaver.
The edging trimmer, though, was a disappointment. It pops up at the push of a button, which is convenient, but it sticks out from the shaver at a 90-degree angle and has to be manually pressed back into place.
This means you can only run it in one direction since it will close if you try to move it backward. When you’re standing in front of a mirror, the handle gets in the way of your view – unless you’re using the trimmer backward.
This turns into a game of constantly moving the shaver around at awkward angles, and it frankly drove me nuts.

Performance Pros and Cons
• Pro: Relatively close shave
• Pro: Cuts days-old beards
• Con: Edging trimmer is awkward to use
User-Friendliness
The Remington F5-5800 foil shaver is relatively easy to use for the first time. There’s only one button on the front of the unit, which turns it on and off. The second button, on the back of the unit, opens the edging trimmer.
A set of LEDs on the front displays your current battery level, so you’ll never run out of juice.
This shaver is also easy to clean. Just press on both sides of the foil cartridge, and pull it off. Rinse it under hot water, and use the included brush to clean out the blades. If necessary, you can also rinse the blades underwater. Just make sure to let them dry thoroughly before you reassemble the shaver.
Accessories
The Remington F5-5800 foil shaver ships with a small travel case, a charging cord, and a small charging station.
The charging station is purely optional, but it’s so small that it actually takes up less counter space than leaving your shaver laying on the counter plugged in. On the one hand, a cleaning station would have been a nice addition. On the other hand, cleaning stations require maintenance and take up lots of counter space.
I didn’t think one could get a better shave than the Remington F5-5800 foil razor, but I was wrong. Series 9000 is superior to any other on the market.
Accessories Pros and Cons
• Pro: Small charging station
• Pro: Includes a travel case
• Con: No charging station
Ease of Use
On the one hand, I enjoyed using this shaver because it worked. I mean that in a nice way. It got the job done, without feeling like I was holding some futuristic device in my hands.
On the other hand, the tilting head is sometimes more of a hindrance than a help. It likes to fall off to the side when I’m shaving my upper lip, which makes me wish this unit had a locking switch.
Ease of Use Pros and Cons
• Pros: It gets the job done
• Cons: Tilting head is a mixed blessing
The Price Remington Electric Shaver
This razor with Interceptor Shaving Technology for the best price. There’s nothing to complain about here. If you’re expecting to pay less, you can always go to a discount store and buy their generic brand, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
The Remington F5-5800 foil electric shaver is manufactured by Remington and is tougher than anything else you’ll get at this price. Replacement foils are inexpensive, although you’ll need to replace them twice a year.
This still makes this shaver much cheaper to maintain than most electric shavers. For a well-made, barebones product from a prestige manufacturer, Remington F5 5800 is a fantastic value, both upfront and over time.
Pricing Pros and Cons
• Pro: Very inexpensive
• Pro: Inexpensive replacement foils
• Pro: Prestigious manufacturer (Remington)
• Con: Not as high quality as premium shavers
My Final Thoughts
Ten years ago, if you’d asked me to recommend a budget shaver, I would have said no. I would have said to just stick with your manual razor, rather than subject your face to the butchery of a substandard shave and blades that snag. Ten years has really made a difference.
Remington has made a budget shaver that provides a reasonably close shave for a reasonably low price. It’s easy to maintain and gets around all the awkward contours on my face. The shave itself is surprisingly smooth, although still not as good as a manual razor.
The edging trimmer is infuriatingly hard to use, but that’s my only real complaint considering the price.
Final Verdict
I was pleasantly surprised by this shaver. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll be going back to one of my premium shavers now that I’m done doing this review. Still, it’s been a while since I’ve used a budget shaver. It’s nice to see that they’ve come a long way. If you’re looking for an inexpensive shaver that will get the job done every morning, the Remington F5-5800 foil shaver is a solid choice.
